Took another look last night at dusk.

Saw no fish so we aren't missing much.

It is really cold at night with the clear sky so hopefully that is dropping the temp of the Fraser and tribs.
The latest report said the river was down to 19C / 2 degrees over optimal/average.

Water temperature is expected to drop by a couple of degrees in the next week or so, hopefully. IMO the water clarity looks a bit worse than a few weeks ago, but that may have been caused by the big tidal differences lately.

I've been out spinning and looking for them in the last few days, still too early as expected.

How are you saying that you are differentiating between fishing for Pikeminnows and not Pink Salmon or that you are not fishing in the "Tidal Fraser" as defined by DFO?

Typhoon, nothing sneaky about it. Currently the salmon fishing closure for the tidal portion of the Fraser River is for subareas 29-11 to 29-17. I'm not fishing in those areas.

If I am spinning for northern pikeminnow in subareas 29-11 to 29-17, I'd be using an ultralight spinning rod with 4lb test main line and a size 1/16oz spinner and size 4 hook, casting and retrieving into small bays, away from the main salmon migratory channel. I'm not suggesting people should use their salmon gear and claim to be targeting pikeminnow, that'd get you charged in no time.

The best thing one can do right now is stay away from the Fraser completely.

I will say though, there's no way in hell that DFO can charge you with fishing for salmon if you have a rod that is usually used for salmon and a spoon of some sort. Since when did people not fish with overkill rods and a lure they probably know nothing about in ANY water ?? The Fraser is still open for Trout fishing as well as Steelhead and Sturgeon. If someone were to go fishing with a 10 foot rod and a tee spoon on the end, what are they gonna do ??

Ya see, the smucks out there have such a big grey area that they could get away with murder with this and that's just too comical, DFO needs to pull their head out of their butt, close it ?? then close it for everything, that way there's no grey zone for poachers and the sort.

BTW, amazes me how one doesn't look at the chart and boundary lines.

Apparently the forecast for September and October is rain, so maybe the water will cool down and the fish will make it.
I'm have a hunch this might be a good year for coho.
