All these closures on sporties while allowing nets in the river or the ocean risking more sockeye mortality in bycatch just tell us this whole thing is for politic more so than for the fish and the sporties are the scapegoat. Now that we are all off the river, the poachers and their nets will be much harder to detect by DFO. Don't you think by us reporting and shutting down the poachers, we will collectively save more precious sockeye than the very rare occurrence that your pink lure will catch a sockeye and it will not survive the brief fight without losing any blood?  What actually are the true reasons these DFO honchoes are basing their closures on?

No, the current closure in the Lower and Mid Fraser River is for all salmon fishing, not just salmon retention, therefore you cannot target, catch and release salmon.

If you are using gear for salmon to "target" northern pikeminnow, but catching and releasing pink salmon at the same time, then officers will conclude that you are targeting pink salmon. It is indeed a grey area, but fishery officers will use their judgement to determine your intent. If it breaks the current regulations, then you will be fined. If you feel the risk is low by putting yourself in that situation. Go ahead. Personally I prefer to not waste enforcement's time so they can focus on the bigger issues.

I was being a bit facetious, but in reality both fish are usually targetted with lighter set-ups. I'm not saying purposefully target pinks but if one was to take advantage of the pikeminnow fishery and doesn't live near Garry Point park in Richmond, then what other option is there?

I don't understand why everyone is complaining there is still so many opportunities for pinks out there. The fraser is one of the options. I don't know about you i want to have fish for my grandkids to fish. And their are enough pinks coming up. however their is still a lot of sockeye going up the river, which are at a low. There is a lot of factors that go into this, for now find another river lots are holding pinks, or go to the beaches fish for pinks what ever it takes.
As far as i know the natives are not aloud to net. but if you have a resource saying otherwise post it up.

You can also legally fish for steelhead in either tidal or non tidal portions.
