I just went of Berry's website and they are reporting the river opening tomorrow in the lower and the upper on Saturday but I can't find it reported anywhere else.

There are no fishery notices which suggest the Fraser River in Region 2 and 3 will open on Saturday yet. Until then, the river remains closed until further notice.

Why can't they at least open the pink fishery for C&R or at the very least fly-only? This wouldn't impact the Sockeye as by catch is very unlikely when fly fishing.

Might be because it's easier to tell everyone (including the native fishery) to stop fishing on the Fraser and enforce rules then to pick and choose various groups.

Speculation is all it seems. They have another meeting today and they should have their results at around 4:00pm. So who knows, i would only suspect if they were to open anything it would be tidal. I couldn't see them opening past mission yet.

I understand that tackle shops get informed or "consulted" prior to openings.

Called Berry's and they confirm DFO is opening the river on Friday.

There should be a protest rally by sporties about these latest series of opening and the media should report on such reckless mis-management and unfairness of the Fraser fishery. The natives have already taken 92,000 sockeye (only the reported number). Isn't that enough already? The sporties have zero sockeye and many with zero springs not to say zero Fraser pinks. DFO is a total hypocrite and sporties will be losing respect of this institution if they don't act responsibly. They told us we should stay off the Fraser so our low, low impact on sockeye mortality as a bycatch can be avoided, because they want zero impact and need to have every sockeye make it back to spawning ground. We believe them and comply. Then they turn around opening the Fraser to nets after nets... I am speechless. If they truly care about the fish, they should stop all fishing, particularly nets. No bycatch fatality is acceptable, not when they think our crude way of fishing with 1 line and 1 hook with such a low mortality can harm the brood stock enough to take us all out of the Fraser.

The silent and well beaten into submission majority wouldn't stand up in enough mass to make this a reality.  There are too many people who just take what the gov't says that they won't ever lose respect for the DFO because they are just lapdogs begging for just a little attention or a little scrap off the table and as long as a tiny scrap comes down every once in a while, they will wag their tail and roll over and do whatever is asked of them.

Front and centre.

Edit to say just because berrys says it's ok doesn't mean it's legal!!
Double check the regs tomorrow first.

Maybe they're saying that to get rid of all the pink buzz bombs they over ordered and didn't sell this season!?!?

A lot of native openings start on 1st Sep. my guess is they open it for sporties on the same day.

My recommendation to all is to check back here or directly on this page for fishery notices that indicate an opening has been issued before heading out this weekend. The last thing you want to do is to be fishing and thinking that the river is open when in fact it is not. This is not saying it will not open this weekend, but you should always rely on fishery notices from Fisheries and Oceans Canada for official words.
