As a result of significant increases in Fraser pink sun size during this week
pink directed fishing opportunities with non-retention of sockeye are planned
in some areas.
If the river is shut down to protect
sockeye, shouldn't the pink run size be completely irrelevant in terms of allowing an opening?
I agree there is way too much politics based in these opening/non opening decisions. It's a shame west coast salmon stocks are and have been completely mismanaged. It's far too easy for them to just shut down recreational fisheries instead of dealing with real problems such as habitat degredation, pollution, ocean factors, fish farms etc... in the end recreational fishers will be the ones to suffer when other factors will continue to be the real cause to salmon's decline.
It may be a stretch but I can't help feeling salmon are being deliberately mismanaged.
