Grouse Plentiful This Year
« on: September 10, 2013, 06:07:07 PM »

Made it out for opening day today and had 5 blues and 2 willows on 7 shots in 2 hours, that was enought to pick so called it a day.

Far better than the last 2 years, I guess the warm conditions helped. No deer though but saw 2 nice rams.

Grouse are definitely plentiful this year. Saw at least 30 grouse, some in packs of 5-6 or more. Its going to be a good year, heading up north to hopefully fill my moose tag.

Only 3 on this trip,1 blue that I hit with a single pellet, was lucky as it flying through some timber. Also 2 willows. Saw a good number yesterday but very spooky because of hunting pressure over the last few days.
Pleased I have 12 this season to enjoy over the winter.

I had a good trip, bagged about 11 grouse, could have had more but didn't get a single one from a couple packs of 7-8.

We were in Princeton last weekend searching for a 4 point muley or the elusive 6 point elk.

No big game taken, we saw two bears and a half dozen does.

Two ruffed grouse and a super fat blue came home with us. Also saw quite a few snowshoe hares.

Great day all in all!

Planning on heading to Princeton, any whitetail does or mule bucks? The grouse numbers in Princeton are pretty low compared to before. My best day was a deer and 3 grouse up there.

Where have you been hunting? Going to the Kootenays to fill a mountain goat tag.

The odd one, hunted above Nicola Lake this AM, nice area but saw nothing, 2 other rigs hunting, ended up at the Helmer Interchange which was a surprise. Maybe should have douibled back from where I was but was getting late in the morning and needed a coffee and muffin in Merritt. ???
They should be moving now as cold and the rut should start soon? Good luck with your tag.

Thanks for info Chris, I'm going to concentrate on lower elevation for deer. If you need some places around Region 3(Merritt) for deer let me know. I have a spot that usually has some deer.
