Does anyone here put live carp or carps in their bathtub?
« on: October 09, 2013, 07:19:07 PM »

I was speaking to a coworker from Slovakia and she told me that carp is equivalent to eating turkey during Christmas in Eastern European countries such as Czech Republic, Slovakia, certain parts of Germany and Austria, and Poland. Two weeks before Christmas, families would go to outdoor fish markets and buy live carp from outdoor fish holding containers. They would transport their live carps and put them in a bathtub full of water for two weeks. Live carp in the bathtub is equivalent to a Christmas tree, though many families still have Christmas trees too. If someone in the family needed to bath, they would take the carp out of the bathtub and put it in another temporary container. After showering or bathing, the carp would be transported back into the bathtub filled with water. Christmas day is when they eat the carp from the bathtub.

Go to Youtube and type, Vánoční kapr ve vaně, which means Christmas Carp in bathtub in Czech to see what I mean!

I doubt many people do it...
One thing to remember as well, it is illegal to transport live fish in B.C. and can result in $1000's in fines and jail time.
Carp are an invasive species in B.C., so if you get caught transporting a live one, I'd assume fines would be severe.

So we are truely blessed in this province where we dont have to do that crap.... ;D
