Anyone here fished Jericho pier near UBC lately?

Do salmon venture out to the Jericho area?

Highly unlikely you will find salmon there.

Salmon tend to hold at the mouth of whatever river they intend to move up to spawn.
Nothing near Jericho.

Probably some bottom fish there, though.

I've seen some people trying to restore a small creek not far from there.  They stocked it with some salmon.  Since the creek connects directly to the ocean, I don't think there is enough salmon for people to harvest.

There are two piers in the Jericho area. There is one near Kitsilano which has been recently torn down.

The one I'm talking about is this one, which is still in service.

I've heard reports of seals catching salmon in Spanish banks which is right beside Jericho.

Not too long time ago, someone caught a huge halibut in Ambleside.

I have sailed past there on a keeled sail boat,Spanish  banks is a sand  bank .The markers further out in the water designate a shallow sandy  bottom stretching from Point Grey to may be Jericho pier.If you see during a low low tide you will see how shallow it is.
This would  be more crab  and  bottomfish territory  in my mind.

Wow.. what are we talking about here again on this thread?  The pic completely side-tracked me haha.

The old Jericho pier.. I remember the days when you would cast your bottom rig setup at exactly at your 11 o'clock position (12 o'clock would be aligned with the length of the dock) and you would be catching some good size flounder.. other locations would only bring you grief with the pacific staghorn scalpin (aka bullhead).  I'm sure others will tell you different results

There are salmon in the area, but to try and target them to catch is a whole other story. Not enough fish, and they are not close to the shore. Need a boat to go troll for 'em.

I keep a sailboat at Jericho and this was in todays newsletter:

Jericho Pier Undergoing Repairs

There will be no public access to the Jericho Pier for the next 2 months or so as it is closed for repairs. Damaged pilings and support beams are being replaced. Much of the damage has occurred over a long period of time. More damage was sustained during last December's neap tide storm which caused a log boom out in the Strait to break up, sending wave powered logs battering into it.

A while back some Guy was posting here about the 4 & 5 foot Dogfish he was catching off the beach nearby-once I called him on his lying bull he never came back.

This time of year you can see Chum jumping on the flood but they are too far to cast to.
