I carry extra floats, extra split shot and I tie a few extra jigs. If I talk to people who may need help with a little fishing education I often give the extras I carry so they can experience a different way of fishing other than bottom bouncing.
I have met some very grateful people on the river and hopefully converted a few.

It's people like this that make up for the other "idiots" out there. Last week a guy was on the river who just moved here. He didn't quite know the techniques or what to use. I tied him up with proper sized leader, egg loop, and gave him some wool. Wished him a happy thanksgiving and proceeded to fish. Completely made his day and made me happy to know there is now another guy out there doing it properly and will continue to help people properly. Sometimes $2 spent to help someone goes a long way for our sport.

I decided to pass up on the Stave and hit the Vedder instead.
Turned out to be a good call.

Went fishing yesterday at vedder half way between vedder crossing and peach road , landed a nice chrome chum about 6 pounders using Colorado blade , that was the first best strike i ve ever felt on the vedder, was fast and aggressive , the hook was totally bared in that chum throat, managed to get my blade out and freed the fish nicely back to do its things,,, no doubt for me that these  fish bite using nice presentations

i was there saturday and it was a lot of them but they were all color and black

Went back there yesterday and they appear to be in good, but not great numbers now. They turned off the tap at the dam so the whole place was like frog water.  I noticed just casting spoons in this type of water out fished dead float fishing jigs.  May be the jig was moving too slowly in this type of water.  You can tell it's still early in the season for these chum because all the fish landed were huge.

I was there yesterday as well although I found jigs to be extremely good. Only complaint is now I have to retie all my jigs as they take a beating by those chum lol.
