Sculpins in the Capilano
« on: November 05, 2013, 12:05:24 PM »

Caught this little guy Saturday in the Capilano River. He looks like a Rocky Mountain Sculpin. Seems a bit out of range as from what I have read they are found in a couple rivers in Alberta and Montana. Can anyone elaborate? http://www.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/species-especes/species-especes/rocky-mountain-sculpin-chabot-montagnes-rocheuses-eng.htm

Hungry little guy!

Pacific Staghorn Sculpin perhaps? judging by what DFO says, that is certainly way out of its range if it is a Rocky Mountain sculpin...

Small sculpins like this are not uncommon in streams. They also make up an important diet for large bull trout and cutthroat trout.
