i know some cities have their own bylaws if you fish from piers or docks about time limits for crabbing at night. Only regulation i see about night time is no leaving pots out at night.

Certain regions are closed 1 hour after sunset til 1 hour before sunrise. I know port moody is in one of these areas, but beyond that keep searching the regs it's in there somewhere

How do you crab at night if you cannot leave the pots out at night?

You just place a pile of fish scraps on the beach/pier/street/somebody's lawn, sit motionlessly with a baseball bat in the dark. When the crabs start emerging from the sea under the moonlight.... BAM! Hit first, measure later. ;D

Seriously though, specific crabbing restrictions can be found under the shellfish harvesting regulations and quota table.

http://www.pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/fm-gp/rec/species-especes/shelltable-tableaucoquille-eng.html

"Areas 28 & 29: It is prohibited to fish for crabs from one hour after sunset to one hour before sunrise each day."

On a serious note would that work? Let's say using a net instead of a bat

On a less serious note:

"crabbing" at night could just depend on what part of town, and, who you are with.

Could make all the difference on what you catch!!
