Suther, maybe you should read all the posts before you open your yap. The OP also asked about fishing in other areas ie "Im thinking is there any locol stream/ creek that is in vancouver bc", this would be covered by the Freshwater regs, hence the link. OP originally asked about Stanley Park so I also included the DFO link, that's for saltwater okay.   I also recommended phoning both to make sure as well as the city to see if there were any special restrictions.

You specifically said "According to the online regs you can fish there" Which means you are refering to a specific location, not giving general info.

Also, the link you provided for the DFO details what salmon you can retain in FRESH WATER systems.

Finally, the city doesn't have jurisdiction over fishing regulations, thats provincial jurisdiction.

So how about YOU dont open YOUR yap when YOU dont know what YOU are talking about.

That's what I was told by a CO in lilloette last spring when I asked about it.

For someone who's so vocal about playing by the rules on all these forums, you sure need to take your own advice and read the regulations for once. If you don't know it, don't say it. Quit telling people where they can't fish when in fact they can. Don't rely on third hand information.

I bet the lack of carp in lost lagoon is part of the reason it has slowly been grown in by grasses.

I took a walk there a few weeks ago and I could see some in the shallows at the south end. There may not be as many as before the 1994 saltwater incident, but there is still a decent size population living there.

According to the online regs you can fish there but I would first check with http://www.env.gov.bc.ca/fw/contact/ by phone to make sure then check http://www.pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/fm-gp/rec/fresh-douce/region2-eng.html tom see if there is any info here and by phone - Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Suite 200 - 401 Burrard Street, Vancouver, British Columbia V6C 3S4, Telephone: 604-666-0384, Fax: 604-666-1847, also check with the city of Vancouver to see if they have any restrictions.

Many years ago, I saw big carps jumping for flies within metres from the shoreline at Lost Lagoon in the summer. I think I saw like three to four big carps jumping at the same time, and it was happening none stop while I was walking through the lagoon.

Lost Lagoon is within the boundaries of Stanley Park, which is a city park that falls within jurisdiction of the City of Vancouver, NOT the Ministry of Environment or BC Parks.
No fishing signs are posted and clearly visible.

I have seen people using dip nets for smelts on the sea wall.

Those are not dip nets-do an image search to see the differences between nets.

There's been some controversy about allowing Smelt netting from the Seawall, in the past people would just leave what they didn't want on the walkway, garbage, dead fish you name it and there was talk of closing it altogether then for a while in the old pamphlet they used to give out there was an appeal for people to leave the Seawall clean and it seems to have worked.

As to rod/line fishing I've noticed the Guys who fish there now are quite courteous and neat that's good to see it's a beautiful place to fish even if there's SFA to bother with.

It is not within one jurisdiction and not another. City Law is not legislation. All Provincial & Federal Laws apply. Fishing as an activity is not allowed by the City much like they don't allow parking in certain areas etc.

Agreed, but the bottom line is there is no fishing there because the City won't let you.
