anybody do any ice fishing around here? i want to try it and was thinking of checking out up around pemberton/whistler. i'm totally green on the subject but guess you need an auger and some of those pinner rods. any advice appreciated.

HIGHLY recommend an ice hut and fishing near shore lines. Being able to see the fish makes me last hours longer in the cold. Used to haul ours up to echo lake near lumby and occasionally seeing a 15lb + Gerrard trout ( Jerrard?) swim by was awesome.

Never done it around here, but lots up in the interior. Like Fishing Lad says, an ice hut is the way to go. Far more comfortable out of the wind, plus really cool to see the fish swimming below you. Add in an auger, short rod and some jigs and you are good to go. You have a snowmobile I assume?

wait a bit.until the ice gets thicker.Just fish shrimp or jigs tipped with worms near the creek.Maybe about 100 feet away from the mouth and drop ur line to the bottom and reel about 2 feet.You could check mosquito lake its called i believe another lake a bit further is gates lake.Or lost lake but i never fished but heard good reports from there.Good luck

I'm heading up to the Logan Lake area on Friday for a weekend of ice fishing.  Never done it before, except for the odd time Rice Lake in North Van froze over as a kid.

Any tips and tricks?
Float and worm, power bait, shrimp?
Should I try small jigs or spoons or is it a meat fishing show? 
Any point in dangling a chronie down there?

I just picked up a Humminbird 570 Portable for $150 at Canadian Tire.  Just gotta figure out a way to get the tranducer thingy to hang down there on the proper angle.

A couple of friends were there yesterday, got nothing. Probably a good idea to not drive out on the ice there and stay away from the aerator. Krill is probably the best bet.

I've given up trying to catch the wiley, wild ice. I just get the domestic variety out of the fridge, now, Besides, it saves having to go out in the cold.

Fishing was....slow.

Couple small ones caught between 5-6 guys putting in a 2-3 hours a day.  Mostly using small jigs and float and bait.

Tough going fishing-wise, but a lot of fun to be out on the ice with a bonfire enjoying some bevvies.

It also helped knowing we had a nice log cabin to go back to just a couple hundred yards away.

Thx Damien! I agree being out there with some cold ones makes up for slow fishing. Hopefully things get better by month end.
