Chilliwack Vedder Steelhead Brood Capture Starts Tomorrow
« on: January 14, 2014, 06:02:04 PM »

The annual steelhead brood capture program begins tomorrow as the volunteers anglers hope to once again are able to catch and tube 70 or so wild fish for the 2014 season.

Watch for those carrying the tubes and consider donating a wild fish you may land to them, that is if the are close enough to them when you land a fish.

I guess I better get out there tomorrow and see if I can donate the first one.  ;D

Hey Chris I'm heading out there on thursday, where can I pick up one of the tubes to help out. Is it just from the hatchery?
or from somewhere else?

The tubes are only available for volunteer anglers who have been given a permit for broodstock capturing. If you catch a wild fish and there is a volunteer angler with a tube nearby (within shouting distance, not walking distance), then definitely call him or her over so the fish can be collected.

Here are some photographs from last year's collection.

Does the hatchery dispatch their brood stock? Or are they released after spawning them?

Seen a guy release a nice wild fish at peach today, unfortunately no broodstockers around for that beauty.

Sure would be interesting to know what percent of the wild, early run component these 27 fish represent.
