Hey Guys I'm pretty new to this forum but have been lurking for a while. I just got a new underwater camera and made my first couple videos this week ice fishing for brookies and rainbows.  I think they turned out pretty decent. Flies seemed to be the ticket I think they have seen too much bait already. I also used a weighted attractor with no hook above the fly it seemed to help draw them in and you can even see one of the brookies grab it in the video.

Nice job indeed.
I was surprised at the quality of the light conditions. I'm guessing that the ice was neither snow covered or even very thick; at least safe? Also I suspect that your camera was of good quality.

Without going into detail of locale, perhaps you could speak to some of the technical details.

Thanks guys. I was using a Marcum underwater camera designed for ice fishing. It doesn't have a record function but does have a video-out port which I plug a cheap digital video recorder into. This allows me to record onto memory cards.

There is a surprising amount of light under the ice even with 6 inches of snow and 16 inches of ice. The visibility seems to be limited by the amount of plankton and particles in the water. I'm excited to try in a lake with more clarity. I'll post the results if I do.

Also, I feel this could be used more than just ice fishing. Oh the ideas.

Thank you for posting, Andrew. It's always interesting from the fish eye view. It was also fascinating in how many fish there were but were not interested in the lure or fly... other than just a passing look. These type of studies can go a long way in improving your fishing technique for all aspects of fishing everywhere.
