Was frozen last weekend. I suspect the ice had become thicker with the temperatures we run this week.
(really need some global warming around here)

Why?  Easiest fishing you'll ever do at Rice Lake is when it is frozen.  Bring an ice chipper and fish off the walkway.

Get there early because the yuppies show up around 10 am and their kids start throwing rocks and logs on the ice, often right next to the spot you're fishing.  The noise travels from the ice surface through the water below and spooks the fish.

Heaven forbid kids playing outside! So rude! They should be at home listening to their iPod and playing with iPad getting iFat.  ;D ;D

Yes, did it last year and got a fish every 10 - 15 minutes.  Any bait will work, Powerbait worked really well for me.  I used an ice chipper, you can try something fancier if you want.

The deck is metal so it will suck the heat out of your feet very quickly.  I wear -40c work boots with two layers of socks, top sock is pure wool.  Also bring hand warmers.  Gloves, of course.  Wool underwear too, Mark's sells some Stanfields that are mostly wool.

Just don't throw rocks next to my fishing hole.  Thanks!

The worst was a Russian woman who sat on a bench behind me and bashed on the ice with a stick for ten minutes, laughing like a hyena.  BASH BASH BASH HEEEE HEEEEE HEEEEEE!  BASH BASH BASH HEEEEEE HEEEE HEEEEEEEEEE!  Go home and drink vodka.

3 crab at Belcarra today, stopped at Sasamat and got a trout.  I would probably have got one more but I messed up my sliding float rig on my new rod.  Tough fishing overall though with the cold weather.

took a hammer with me and got up there at 8 am.
lake was frozen on the dock end, but clear at the other end.
also, the area right in front of the dock was clear of ice! no need to break through. :)
two other elderly gentlemen were there already and they caught 3 fish between them and i caught only one in an hour.
all bites stopped at around 9am though. i stayed till 10 and then headed home. it wasn't super super cold, wind was quite calm. i had my fleece underpants, merino wool base layer, gloves, and a fleece hoodie with a down vest over top. a windbreaker would have helped made it extra comfortable.

i was in coquitlam last night and had a quick look at lafarge while i was driving by, i didn't see any ice

If you can get to Rice lake I'm sure you can get to a place that has reel fish potential.
Rice lake is for kids and pensioners who need protein other than cat food in their diet.
Don't take this the wrong way but dragging small hungry sluggish fish out of a trout pond is hardly sport.
Fishing is fun but so was frying ants with a magnifying glass when I was kid.
(Grown out of the last one)
Heck! By your picture you could fish off a spool without a rod. :)

If someone enjoys fishing Rice Lake or any other "trout pond" so be it!

On another note the lake is going to get a good freeze this week.
