Where to get the species signs to post in our streams?
« on: April 22, 2014, 09:14:57 PM »

Question, anyone know where to get the salmon species, cardboard posters I've seen around on walkways of streams? I have a spawn stream and want to help inform and get the kids interested in keeping areas clean and protect the fish spawning. We had kids last fall Involved and it seemed there was little if any rock throwing or dragging fish out of the creek. Trying to protect my part of the stream, but, hoping to get the kids more involved with the cause.
I spoke with the ministry of fishing and that didn't get far.

Any ideas would be appreciated. I have tons of stills and videos if it needs proving.

  Thanks,

You need to contact the DFO community advisor in your area, which you can find on the following page:

I appreciate the link, but, I didn't get far. They mentioned the possibility of a steel sign at the road geared towards pollution. Not what I'm looking for.
The lady at DFO advised trying to connect with local clubs, but, respectfully I've seen the negative side of this and the people just came down and dictated ( bird watchers and tree huggers ). I seem unable to put my point clearer and I'm sorry, but, I don't want to offend anyone ( bird watchers and the huggers ). We have about 250 yards of stream and I'm looking for ideas.

You contacted the provincial government, not DFO. As I mentioned in the earlier post, contact a DFO community advisor.

You may also want to contact the local fish hatchery and she if they can do something.  In my area we have 2 hatcheries and each one has their own community group that help with looking after the river and it's tributaries. Your area may have one as well.

Hi Wool,

If you're looking to get some signs up for cheap and avoid wasting your time with bureaucratic BS getting them approved only to have some idiot rip it down the next day, I might be able to help you. what is your email address? I can send you what I have and you can decide whether it meets your needs.
