I caught a decent coho and a few sea runs at the mouth of the brunette.

Is it possible to catch anything there in the summer?

Somehow I though it was a part of the PNE compound and I would have to pay to get in.  Can I just walk in from East Hastings?

You don't have to pay to get in, parking is also free. You can park not too far from the floating dock.

Pikeminnow and other minnow species are what you will encounter. For those who intend to fish at Brunette River, please keep in mind that it is a fragile urban stream where volunteer groups have invested countless hours of work to bring back its trout and salmon populations. Please release all salmon, trout and char as well as steelhead with special care if you encounter any in this stream.

As Rod stated, its not part of Playland and is accessible pretty easily (and free).
I walked there couple of days ago heading west on Hastings from Burnaby Heights and it was past Playland.
There's an area to the left of Playland which is where Sanctuary Pond is after a small walk on the trails. The
fishing dock was empty and the area itself had only several people walking/biking around or making their
way to the Amphitheatre.
I didn't bring gear that day so I'm not quite sure how the fishing is so can't really give feedback on that.

Trout lake is loaded with cat fish

was thinking of heading down there sometime this week and once again wanted to confirm if anyone has experience and knows
for sure if Trout Lake has any fish (let alone Catfish which is being quoted). I never see anyone fish there that's why I wanted to make sure.

I'm not trying to lead you on a goose chase here. It's also got sunfish and a few other I forgot. If I'm not too busy I'll drop by since in live pretty close. But your right nobody fishes there, I guess that's why the cat fish keep getting bigger

I just wanted confirm first and foremost before heading down.
Now that you've confirmed just that, I was wondering what your setup is for fishing them?

I did some reading and most people use a bottom rig with 1-2 oz weight and dough on t-turns
or snap swivels.
assuming the cats aren't very big, a 2-6 lb test rod and line would be ideal?

Yeah just a regular bottom rig is fine, please report back as I haven't fished there in since the beginning of June. I was using worms and corn and when that ran out power bait worked too but not as well

So I went there today around 5 pm. Apparently the main dock is currently down and under major construction until
further notice. I decided to walk around and right next to it is a smaller dock covered in lilypads except for a small radius right
before me. I fished here for about 45 minutes and nothing. I'll probably check time and again to see when the dock is rebuilt but until then that's what I will report.

not true. we drove on nanaimo heading south bound from 1st and made a right at 17th. there's a parkade at the end and it's literally right before the dock area past the trails.

You could try taking the train to seabus and transfer to get to the mouth of the CAP and huck spoons for coho.  Or walk from phibbs exchange to the mouth of the Seymour?

Walk from Scott Road station to the Fraser and try your hand at bar fishing or casting for coho.

but isnt it too early for Coho?

the trip to the seabus over to the north shore sounds doable but I was wondering how far the Fraser is on foot if I tried getting off at Scott Road?
in any case, thanks so much for the suggestions. i'm always looking for more ideas and will get to trying out getting there one day.

I would guess 10-15 mins from Scott station to Brownsville Park...

And yes, it is too early for Coho, I wasn't suggesting go there today to cast for Coho.

Could always sturgeon fish in Surrey, Richmond, Burnaby or New Wesr fairly easily and you could catch some big fish.
