Hello all. I just put some Off Clip-ons in my Skagit gear and was wondering if anyone has used them successfully? The dog and I usually go without deet or the like (and I'm allergic to Skin So Soft) and are usually fine on the water or camping on the point (save for the odd horsefly) however, last time we were there we left early because my poor canine had her eyes nearly swollen shut from mossies - a first for us to leave early, even due to bugs. Well, there was that one time during 9/11 and the scrambled fighter jets along the border that shortened our trip but, I digress

Reviews aren't great and breathing fumes are toxic?!? Lol Still, I'm curious for any feedback on this product? Thanks in advance!

Actually, the more I research the less I like it. They don't seem effective and the toxic fumes kinda kills the idea for me and the dog. Back to getting bit. Last time at the Skagit I found 4 dead crows so... Guess we'll dodge and swat. Took the clip on out of my gear.

I've heard that thermacell makes a good product, (it's a wearable unit,) but then when I read the label, it sounds kinda toxic.

I was doing some reading, and came across this product called pest off insect repellent.  It's made out of natural oils, and supposedly works for mozzies. 

I haven't tried it myself, so I can't vouch for it....
DEET sounds pretty nasty. Especially for the kids.

Yes deet is horrible. Clip ons don't seem worth it, either. Thanks for the info re: pest off though - if I order some you'll see a review here. Sounds worth a try if the smell is tolerable

I'm usually ok - but would be kinda ironic putting catnip on my dog's collar. Hehe

Any one heard of a tar based product. The tar is made of birch bark. Mixed with olive oil it can be applied to the areas. It has a distinct smell and you probably want to bath your dog after. The benefit is that the solution is completely natural. One might even say organic.

I haven't heard of the birch product. Sounds like it has drawbacks, but always worth my research, thanks.

They seem to work ok, better than spray IMO.

I start taking vitamin b1 a few days before I head out somewhere I know has a ton of mosquitos,  works for me and my girlfriend.  I'm not saying it's going to 100% take the skeeters away but they hardly bite if they do.

Insect defend patches. Available at Can tire etc. they just release vitamin B1 into your bloodstream, and you emit it through your pores. Check out the reviews on their FB page, many people swear by them. They worked well for me, but you must get the heart rate going at least a little to make them work well. Also they're good for 24 hours +

Will do! I was a word or two off on my search and missed the whole b vitamin thing. Can't wait to pick some up (and maybe catnip for the dog) and give it a test
