Kill the Pinks!
« on: July 21, 2014, 07:22:39 PM »

Article

Some anglers like to kill northern pikeminnows because the feed on salmon fry. I say never mind the pikeminnows. It's obvious, after reading this article, that it's pink salmon that are resposible for the demise of the sockeye.

Kill the pinks. Kill 'em all, and bring back the sockeye!

and Alaska should stop stocking them by the cargo shipload.  After all, turnover is quite high...

Everybody in this province knows only sockeye salmon, our iconic species, should be the only fish roaming in our rivers and ocean. Anything else should be added onto the species of evil list.

Black bear, great blue heron, salmon shark, killer whale.... Not sure why it has taken so long for the government to take action, start the culling already and save our salmon.

....... ::)yet we come out by the thousands...fathers, sons, moms, daughters to enjoy this fishery every odd year.  gotta stock up on those pink spoons. I think the pink fishery makes thousands of dollars for the tackle shops so it still is a huge money generator for the lower mainland economy. But yes.....maybe a bit too many pinks out there.

Well killing an occasional pink isn't going to help because it seems there are bigger culprits at play. Watch the "Salmon Confidential" documentary done in BC by leading Canadian Scientists: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fTCQ2IA_Zss

Long story short: it's the farming!

If the article is supported by science, pinks are affecting the survival of other salmon species due to them being more adapted to global warming effect on the ocean. Why not up the daily quota for pink salmon next year? LOL.  ;D
