mill lake and fish trap creek
« on: August 28, 2014, 11:56:06 AM »

I am interested in these locations for crappie but have very little info on them for crappie I know that there are crappie in mill but I've only heard some rumours of them in fish trap. Is it worth the effort to try there (boatless) and if so how should I go about it. Thanks any help would be much appreciated.

thing is sam I've caught a fair amount of bass but I haven't succeeded in catching any crappie for me its proving really challenging, don't get me wrong I do appreciate bass but crappie seem to be more elusive (in BC) and I'm intent on getting one.

The best place in the lower mainland to catch crappie is Whonnock lake. Its almost a guarantee.

All you need is a small float, little weight, I like a half inch pan fish jig and just some Lilly pads and you'll get them by the boat load.

There are also a fair number of crappy in hatzic lake. A little yellow rubber jig "mister twister" is deadly and they readily take flies such as damsel nymphs and micro leaches.

There used to be a large number in Mill Lake until the Pike started feasting on them.

I used to go crappie fishing all the time with my old man at Hatzic. This is going back to the mid 90's, at that time there was an abundance of them in there...good sized ones too. We used a slipfloat with a crappie jig, color didn't seem to matter much. White, yellow, green, even pink worked well. Whonnock is loaded with em too, but all that I've got in caught in there are tiny. At Whonnock, I was catching them on royal coachman flies, along with the crappie jig w/slipfloat method.

What makes you think there is no Pike in Mill Lake? Don't assume they aren't in there just because you haven't seen them.
