What are you guy's thoughts on sockeye roe? A very experienced angler i know doesn't like it and won't fish with it. His reasoning is  that it falls apart easy and you only get a couple casts out of it. I agree with him to an extent but is it really a waste of time to cure up some sockeye roe?

If it falls apart easy, why not use it in roe bags?

Eggs aren't the biggest but it all depends on the person behind the curing process.

Works just fine. Dry it out a little after you're done curing it.

I cure my sockeye roe with pink procure and coarse salt, have been using it for years.

Works great for drift fishing and barfishing for coho, springs, and steelies.

Have also used it in place of krill for the kawkawa kokanees with great success.

Interesting, Im going to try that right now. I saved some skeins in case i felt like sturge fishing but i think spring fishing would be more fun, esp with fresh roe~

you could fool them with anything, jk. i got some from a buddy this year. curred a bit of the big skiers and they look ok. im sure you will have no problem tricking the first fish of the season with it.

I use it also for coho if i dont have any good stuff left from the year before.and it has worked just fine for me.

I just cured up a batch of sockeye and spring roe.  The sockeye roe ended up much more "watery", and when I dried it out overnight, the eggs are slightly shrivelled up.  Did I "burn" the eggs?  I used way less cure than for the spring roe, which turned out beautiful - full plump eggs ready for some coho action!!!  Anyway, I can see the sockeye roe working, but it seems even more fragile than pink roe!  We'll see...
