Hey guys.

Tying up some flies for a place with a hook restriction.
Hook gap restriction is 15mm.

Anyone have a 2/0 Owner lying around that they can measure for me (from shank to hook point across the gap). Would rather not have to buy them and find out after that they are not usable and have to return them for 1/0.

Thanks!

Is owner a brand or type? Ie: siwash, octopus, caddis, long curve, etc.
Siwash 2/0 are 15mm but I believe octopuses are smaller..

Owner hooks are a brand that has gained a lot of popularity over the last several years.

Sod the restriction , 2/0s are still more big enough to kill many trout stone dead and or take their eye out as well as putting a big hole in any fish. If a fly needs a hook bigger than a #2 just tie a trailer.

I fully agree, these aren't for me, it's an order, and I don't argue with clients. If they ask for the biggest hook that is legal within the regs, I have no reason to say anything.

My typical hook is a size 8 - 10 streamer hook, even for intruders. If I go a trailer on a fly, its a size 4. Trailing hook method on a spoon is a size 1, and even size 1, after catching hundreds of trout on it, I've maybe damaged 3. They rarely get injured at all, its always in the nose.

I do my best to limit damage under all circumstances. Besides hurting fish... Small hooks hold fish way better.

Biggest hook I would use for trout (in flies that I tie) would be maybe 6 or 8. A size 6 Woolly Bugger, with a cone head, is a pretty big fly. Even a steelhead (or bull trout) fly with a trailer hook I wouldn't go bigger than a size 4.
