Capilano River, September 26th 2014

Another pre-work session today with no hits. Hammered crocs, cherry croc, and spinners. The river is higher and less clear than yesterday.

How the hell do people catch fish on the cap? Ive spent 50+ 8 hour days on the cap since april and ive hooked and landed 3 coho 1 lost.. All on fly. I try gear when the waters up and fish lower with tides etc etc. But i never get them to bite. I even go before sunrise. Its no wonder everyone ive seen the last 2 days is snagging salmon and retaining them. It doesnt make it okay at all but damn these fisb wont bite for me.....
They do bite when the water is realy high.It was at 6 feet on the wier and everyone was catching. Its all about timing.

I agree. This is a tough river. Fished on the 27th up high. Water was perfect with a little colour. Could see the odd fish go by, but the only guy getting them was a fellow sweeping pocket water. Got em in the mouth and a few in the sides. I just hate fishing that way, but it seems the only guys getting fish were using that method.
I find that I can only hook fish when there is no bait ban. Have to wait until Nov 1 for that, or get it done early in May and June.

When they are really stacked in there, like last friday the 27th, you could get some to take wool, but in large this river is finicky.

Here is a shot from the Highway pool on the 26th. They were just doing lap after lap in there while the odd one broke off up the rapids.

I'm surprised you can't see any roe or foul hooked fish in that shot.

Thanks!

Yeah, that was me. Nice chatting with you that morning. Hope you landed a couple of those Ho's!

I have been doing a fair bit of shooting lately and am going to post some vids over the next couple months of my adventures lately - including one showing Coho fry taken throughout the year in one of the Cap's tribs. It has been really cool watching them and their neighbours over the course of the year. Here is a screenshot:

Yeah no doubt! Only the second day after their big push so was a couple days ahead of the mess. The one near the back of the school with the white spots had been ripped open by something hook-sized, though. and saw a spring later that day with the same thing. Missing a square inch around the collar.
