It doesn't have to be a big patch of water either - it might be just a few square feet. Coho love to stop or hesitate by sunken logs & woody debris, the sides of runs very close to shore, tail outs with cover etc. They also avoid being in close proximity to other salmon species particularly springs and chum but that doesn't mean they won't be in the same pool or run. They may even be within just a few feet of them.
