Chilliwack River, October 4th 2014
« on: October 06, 2014, 06:51:20 AM »

Started later than normal in hopes to have a little more water to navigate the river.  Managed 2 hatch coho and lost a few more.  As the water cleared up we saw a number of hos and springs heading up river under the boat.

As we were pulling out there was a large jet boat trying to pull out of the water.  Based on low water, slope of launch, weight of boat and trailer, fact that his F350 wasn't engaging in 4x4, he was digging in and sliding sideways until he was 45 degrees to the boat and trailer.  After 10 minutes, he did what I suggested and took the boat off the trailer to move over to the concrete launch.  To other boaters, there are folks that have more experience that you might want to listen to.  We suggest solutions because we have been there or seen it before.

The trailer would have been stuck no matter what tackle was in the boat.   Then again, maybe they were tossing gear under the tires to try and get traction.  ;)

There is a boat launch? One that you can actually use? Where is it? The world needs to know about this launch.

The world already knows where it is. :)

We tried spoons, spinners, short float wool, roe, blades.  The trick for us was a large spoon that has caught springs, hos, pinks and chum.  Once I had a steelie on briefly using that spoon.

Barrowtown pump launch has been there for decades.

I've been going over the dam and using the launch which is much less steep. It's not commonly used as evidenced with all the vegetation there but a lot less nails from party bonfires.
