Haha strato and magician between you two and son and fk I think you killed them all! Lol I got there at 5 and me and son fished till dark only managed one small hatch, there wasn't really a last light bite

I guess you guys were in the right spot at the right time. Most people on the river had a slow day. We fished mainly mid, a bit upper and a bit lower but barely saw any action. Every person we talked to echoed what we said.

Overall, there are definitely less coho this year than last (also confirmed by the test fishing reports).  We had been taking home a couple of fish each outing at this spot we had been fishing but I think the key was that the water had more color to it and the fish were a bit more aggressive.  Even then we still missed many fish, only seeing the flash in the water as they shake the hook off.  Another very important factor was that almost everyone in the run fished light gear with roe.  I don't remember anyone bb betties and ripping at the end of each cast.  It brought back memories of what fishing was like for me 25 years ago before Fraser sockeye gear starting being used in the Vedder.

Hey stratocaster FFM always raves about your roe cure and the results seem to prove it.

You've already mentioned to take good care of the roe right from the start I was wondering if you ever tinkered with your own recipes. Ive tried a couple off the internet without much success so I usually use Pautzke fire cure with krill scent and havent had much succcess with anything else but that.

I've tried to put such things as Anise oil etc.. but I find going with what has worked in the past to be the best.  I know a lot of people favor natural color cure when the water is clear but fishing both side by side I've found at least for me anyways, red works the best in all conditions.  We also like to bring at least two types of roe, spring and coho and change things up.  Good bait is only one part of the equation.  Presentation and attention to what's going on is even more important.  Sometimes the fish will smash the bait and make your float dive but more often than not, your float barely wobbles.  It seems lately that FFM has been outfishing me at least earlier in the morning because his reflexes are a bit quicker than me.  I sometimes catch up to him later on when his coffee wears off.  

I used to try Pink, Orange and Natural but now I stick just to red.  BN, I think you are on the right track

 I used pro-cure red when it first came out. The only color untill a friend of mine got this fly dye that was a purple red color. We added it to natural pro-cure. We couldn't keep the coho off.
  I have caught coho on ghost shrimp and pink rubber worms. Still use pink worms today. I like to toss hardware also.

That actually happened to Stratocaster!  He got a backlash and was trying to fix it.  When he was done, he reeled in, only to find a coho on the end.  What a change from the week before!

Started in the Lickman area on the 15th.  Hooked two coho early with a medium hatchery to hand.  Lost two larger fish without seeing them.  I did not see any other fishermen with coho.  A fellow sharing the spot with me landed a large chum, released it and hooked the same fish about 5 minutes later.  As Rodney said, the fish were moving through fast and the bites coincided with fish being evident.

Took a look up top.  Lots of fishers catching dark springs at the cement slab.  Didn't see any coho but I wasn't there very long.
