Wool works, jigs are best IMO.
I tried wool, got 1 hookup every 5 casts, with jigs it was 4 out of 5.
Bent Rods jigs are the way to go.

There are tackle shops in every city along the way.

M&Y in Surrey, Sea Run in Coquitlam, Riverside in Poco, Hatch'n'matcher in Maple Ridge, Belles in Mission, Fred's in Abbotsford.

You can make yourself a poormans jighead, tie yourself a regular yarn fly ( purple , pink, combo) then pinch on a small split shot above your hook . It will get your presentation in the zone . Don't pinch the shot too hard as it will weaken your line . Have used it lots in the past and present when you lose the last jig or want to experiment with different color combos .Don't forget to twitch that jig ,drives em nuts . Also Hatch Match'r fly and tackle - is on the way to the Stave , 22935 Lougheed Highway , Maple Ridge . Good luck , I hope you and your Dad make it there .

The tide will be coming in, the water gets deeper and your chances slim down for chum in my experience there. I always catch more chum mid tide. I find you need more flow with them. Coho more on the incoming tide, in the more slack water.

If low tide is at 7:40am and it peaks at 2:45pm, what would the ideal time to get out for chum be?
I think it would be noon to 1pm, what do you guys think?

I also find a drag free drift, and adjusting the depth shorter than you think, increasing in small increments helps with jigs. If they're biting they'll come up and smash your jig.Get fresher fish too.

I leave a little line in the water and give it a mend, don't hold back on your float when fishing jigs. Also tip the jig with some deli shrimp.

There isnt much area in on the stave you cant fly fish (East side.) Most of the spots that you cant really nail a cast out 80 feet really dont have 80 feet worth of water. It really is an easy area to fly fish with the way its laid out. Around the toilet bow, standing on the boat launch the left side can be tight with bank and bush, but most of the float guys set up there as the current is the nicest for floating roe. I personally stand on the boat launch, toes touching the water, and can cast as far as is necessary to get coho or chum.
