Looking to get into centerpinning

Hi there,

My first post here, glad to be a part of it.

I've been flyfishing(single and double handed) and for a few years now and I have too many good drift fishing rivers around me that I feel like I need to get to know the sport.

I'm looking to get either a Island Steelheader or Searun, I meant to purchase the steelheader but upon looking at it, it is more suitable for righthand retrievers, hence now looking at the Searun. Though I much prefer the look and price tag of the Steelheader. I like the fact that you can actually buy a lefty reel.

Is Searun really a better reel?

I'm left handed I don't have any problems with mine, I love my steelheader.

I never could understand concept of casting with right hand and switching hands for retrieve.

I do it with pretty much all my hands, I am right handed but I cast and retrieve with left hand when I am using my rods. When I get a fish I switch so i can reel with my right hand, feels natural to me but I am also on the strong side of ambidextrous so it really doesn't matter in the long run.

Why not buy a left handed steelheader? Should be a left handed, as i used to owned 1 and a friend had a lefty. No need to switch hand

There's no such thing as a left or right handed steelheader. It's one reel, can be used both ways. OP get the steelheader if you like it more.

When I was in the market for an islander at first i thought higher price = better reel but after doing some research I realised that the steelheader is lighter and holds more line plus it comes in more colours haha.

Puuurdy. Both islanders I've owned were brand new and had a sticky reel handle. It loosens right up in a trio or 2.
