line matching
« on: February 22, 2015, 07:25:55 PM »

has anyone outthere owned a loop green 8124-4 before i just picked one up last weekend and once my new reel comes in the mail ill be in the market for a skagit line setup

if anyone has cast one or owned one before any input would be nice.

the loop line chart shows from 550-625
im hoping to narrow it down a bit as these lines are quite pricey
right now im leaning towards 550-560g depending on the brand

ill be throwing mostly 3-4" intruder patterns and some smaller GPs and woolly buggars
for now

If I were you, I'd post this on speypages. They were a great help when I needed to match up a line for my new spey rod. Great group of guys willing to help there.

I like this stick with a 600gr Skagit compact and a 550gr iFlight. 13' chunk of T11, turns over dead chickens.

Specific line recommendations by Simon Gawesworth are here: http://www.rioproducts.com/skin/summit/pdf/old-spey-line-recommendations.pdf

Lower end of the range usually applies to Scandi lines and overhead. Higher ratings apply to Skagits.
