Easywater:

I bought a small, hard shell, sit-in kayak from CanTire at the end of last summer.

The kayak is 8 ft long and has a weight limit around 200lbs.
I am around 200 lbs and I found the boat very unstable - moved side to side a lot.

A couple of months later, I got a great deal on an Aquaglide inflatable kayak.

The one I got is the "Dechutes 2" - took it 3 or 4KM off-shore in the ocean in Mexico and it felt very stable.

Aquaglide also makes a special "fishing kayak".

It has Scotty mounts and the hull is puncture-proof.

You might be on to something here.
I find hardshells tippy and clumsy.

Going to the demo days was awesome! Totally helped me confirm my well researched pick and a lot of fun!

Hey Ryan,  ever thought about a demo day in van? Abby is a bit of a drive for some I bet although totally worth it!

Hey Doja, what did you end up getting? Glad you enjoyed the demo day. We have run some demo days in Vancouver before and probably will again this year. We always attend the MEC Paddle Fest at Jericho Beach every year.

Hey Ryan,  bought a 14' tarpon, have taken to the ocean ( real ocean, not van, lol ) and up small rivers such as the alloutte and lots of lakes! Great boat for me!

Going to keep an eye out for the Vancouver one as it was fun trying the different boats and how they handled... any idea when abouts?

Well my Income Tax Return was good to me so went out to Western and picked up a Jackson Coosa.
I think I might break it in this weekend if the weather holds.

The girlfriend and I love our fishing kayaks that we bought from Western Canoe and Kayak last November.

She got the Tarpon 120.

I got the Jackson Cuda 12.

Hers is faster and smoother to paddle.

Mine is much more stable - I can stand up and flycast from it.

The demo days are ideal, they allow you to try a lot of the different options and see what "feels" best for you! Glad some of you made it out and gave 'em a try.

Ya...  I don't recommend standing in a tarpon...  Tried it once...  Dumb idea,  lol.

That said you CAN put outriggers on to make more stable...  And still retain the speed aspect of a narrow width. Lots of cool ideas guys on YouTube have done!
