Ambleside, 4 July 2015

Had a long day out at Ambleside on the 4th. This trip was basically 2 trips in 1- first was at the pier..fished it from about 6-11..it was high slack when I arrived. Bottom fish action was significantly slower compared to previous recent trips due to the rapid flowing ebb tide throughout the morning. Saw a couple of extra large rock sole (15-16+ inches, ~1.5-2 lbs!) landed by some Chinese. fishermen when the tide was still slack earlier in the morning and only 1 pile perch by another from the pilings. Mostly small fish for me, kept only 1 sizable greenling.
Went out to Ambleside beach at around 11:30 near the mouth of the Cap for coho as the tide ebbed...fished there till 2:45. The beach was crowded with only a handful landing fish (unfortunately not by me!)..the biggest around 6 lbs. Was casting with Gibbs crocs, changed lures a few times but no hits... The sea was quite choppy with fairly large waves. Next weekend should be better, as the lows will be in early morning.
