Flushing outboards after being in the salt
« on: July 30, 2015, 09:27:51 AM »

Is it necessary to flush an small outboard everytime it is used in the chuck ?  I'm considering leaving my small boat in Squamish for a short time rather than trailer it from
Surrey every day. I might not be able to flush it after each use. What are your thoughts.

I personally flush it every time. and wash the boat trailer etc. Salt water will corrode the sh** out of a motor. you can apply a protective coating on the surface to minimize the salt wear and tear on the boat.

Cheers

Your outboard uses the water its run in as coolant. If it where mine id flush it every time.

Tell that to the millions of boats that never leave salt water.

Is it better to flush your motor and wash down your trailer and boat after using it in the chuck, yes.

Will it rot out in a couple of weeks, no.

I flush mine every time in salt water. I like launching in Fraser to fish the mouth then semi flushed already.

How do you guys flush your outboard and rinse your boats with the current water restrictions in the LML? Most if not all the boat launches in the area have already closed the water stations and you are not supposed to wash your boats at your place of resident either ... :'(

You can wash your boat at a commercial car wash.

I don't think the restrictions have anything about outboards in them lol
