This past Saturday (Aug 8th) evening, saw a school of pinks surfacing on the upper arm of the Fraser, right off the pier by the Romer's Burger Bar (South Vancouver).

Most consistent fishing usually happens towards the end of the first week in Sept (5-7) and around the 10-15th above Mission. Are they early? I don't think so. Most systems haven't seen any kind of early return. Howe Sound & Squamish saw an early push in the first half of July but it tailed off for a bit and things in the river are fairly close to regular timing. Runs on the east coast of Island seem to be several days late but they are showing in good numbers now.

Talked to a guy who was casting for pinks while I was walking the dog. No action with them but he had a jack spring on the beach.

How do you know they aren't Sockeye?

Good point, I don't know. They could have been Sockeye, I just assumed Pinks.

The difference between how sockeye and pink salmon jump in the Fraser River is quite distinct actually. Sockeye tend to leap out of the water while pink salmon usually show their back only as they travel upstream.

Hahaha ya, you see there's these fish, and man are they a pain!

Chinook fishing is on fire out front. Yes the pinks are finning everywhere, and yes they are a pain to deal with. Trying to stack and the pin pops before I get down. It's funny the first 10 times, then not so funny.  Lol

I've done it in the past, it's not even fun, it's so much work. You can't even get your line in the water without having to bring it right in.

This may be a dumb question but what exactly do u mean by this?

Nothing at Gary Point this week, some surfacers but nothing exciting yet.

Not a dumb question, when fishing for Chinooks out on the mouth of the Fraser while pinks are around... There are pinks on your line before you can even get the line to the right depth. So all you do all day is pull up and release pinks. It's annoying, and I won't be doing that again.

I like catching pinks, but on the river with a fly rod. Not in the chuck with down riggers.

Ok so that's what I was thinking bur wasn't sure.   So we actually do want to get out on the mouth and catch the pinks because Me and my friends are new to salmon fishing in the chuck.  Can we just use pink jigs and jig for them because I don't have a downrigger.   I'm thinking 20-40ft down if u find a school
