Rod Type For Beach Fly Fishing

Seen many posts saying that you should use a  6wt to 8wt in the 9' to 10' range is recommended for beach fly fishing. Any thoughts as to what way to lean? I'm assuming that a 8wt 10' would help with longer casts?  Still pretty new to fly fishing, so any help getting some tight lines would be appreciated.

I have 2 setups for ECVI beaches an 8wt 9'6 and an 11ft 6wt switch rod  with an 8wt 290 gr Wulff Ambush line for both rods. When it's calm, I will use the SH, I will use the switch rod when the wind starts blowing up or if the fish are farther out beyond the reach of my SH. You can use a  6 or 7wt if you prefer

9ft sh rods are often preffered for salt as a result of the extra torque on the wrist, and its also tougher to fight fish with longer rods due to that extra leverage.   More of a concern with larger, stronger fish though.
