I'm a pansy! Need to get something. Sharkskin is terrible, but flys wonderfully. Suggestions?

I spent 4 days in a row fishing for pinks, three of those in the salt and boy does it cut you to ribbons, to the extent the cuts were bleeding.  The best/cheapest thing I have found is cloth adhesive surgical tape.

Apparently some of the stripping gloves, such as the Simms Sunglove work ok.

Yeah those were looking pretty nice. I like the tape idea for the price, but I'd prefer something that will work when wet, and be apart of my gear. Hoping Michael and young has a pair.

Oh yeah this was from the salt. All the red marks bled today, and threes a couple that are hidden that hurt but aren't bad. Freshwater is bad, but the salt is definitely worse

Guess that's one good thing about not being able to cast that far, not much line to strip in... yikes!

I saw the buffs. But I'm pretty clumsy. Prefer a glove that stays in.

I wish I was a good caster. Then I wouldn't need the sharkskin! It's a terrible lineb to fish, but it casts so nicely!

Surgical adhesive tape is good, but once you've cut through the plastic change it.  (Otherwise the adhesive will attach itself to the fly line picking up crap for more abrasion and can affect the lines smooth shoot through the guides)

Gloves are an option but prevention is at least half the cure

I didn't read through the other post but what works well is hockey tape, stick tape to be exact.

I simply build up my calluses through shooting my bow, so there is a greater chance I am wearing out my line on my fingers than the other way around.

The gloves are way too thick. Bulky, terrible. I want the buff guards I think. But, for the intern, I was told to strip back, not down. Ok I'll work on that.

I do squeeze the line, so I will also let it slide. But playing a fish off reel doesn't work here. I use one finger squeeze to feel bites after the strip

I do only use one finger to strip. The picture is rotating the line on my fingers add they started to bleed.

All the gloves I found were too thick. Gonna try the sports tape, cleaning the fly line (needs to be done anyways) and a different strip technique

Go to Myflyshop on boardway, they sell stripping glove.

Once you're playing off the reel you're only reloading the spool to level out the reel, and there should be less tension on your spooling digit (finger).
If the fish wants to run, let it and use your palm to slow the reel.
((I have a reel with adjustable drag but that  rarely comes into play unless I'm playing a big chum or a bigger sprin

Should have worded it better.

Playing a fish. I generally dont play fish ON the reel. Unless it takes off and my line is gone, Ive had too many times where Im trying to reel up 30 or so feet of line. I have a large arbor as well, but I if I try to get the fish on the reel, then I end up losing it.

I found out the Sharkskin line I have is old stock! I got it last year, but its at least 5 years old due to no SA ID on it. Im told these have a lot more bite to them! I think Im gonna try the new Sharkwave line, it looks pretty cool. I had no idea it existed. I guess this is why my 4 weight cuttie setup with a sharkskin isn't so bad, it is the newer versions that have less texture and less bite.
