Pinks at the mouth of the Coquitlam river?
« on: September 06, 2015, 09:29:54 PM »

How do you think fishing here would be? Would it be better than in New West? Or the same? Just wondering since it's closer to me.

Saw a boat out there yesterday.
Pinks take the inside corner (Surrey side) so very few will be on the north side.
Pinks are notorious strayers so there probably are some there checking out the smells.

So do you think it will be better to just go fish on the docks at new west?

I don't know - never fished there. That's also the north side so it will get much fewer fish.

But it will also get fewer people and therefore all to yourself.
I totally understand the need to catch a fish whether for the thrill or the sustenance.

But I did hit a number of known producing spots in Richmond and beyond and saw very little in the way of action (sure some caught a few but nothing to speak of)
So your thought could be the ticket.
Get skunked or limit there or get skunked or limit somewhere else.
The good spots some times don't get talked about and this year it's anybodies guess.

Today's good maybe tomorrow's bust.

Good luck, but even finding the spot with 100 lining the bank doesn't mean they're catching fish.

Strange year for sure...

Go check it out, but if you hit gold don't talk about it.
It will tarnish quickly.   :o

Sure thing, I might be able to find time this week to check it out.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts :)

They do run up that river so you are sure to see a few.

I dont really know the answer to the OP question, but people seem to have success in both New West as well as Maple Ridge which are obviously both on the north side. I would imagine that some pinks must pass by the Coquitlam and the Pitt though neither system gets a large pink run as far as I know, That area doesnt seem to be a historically popular pink fishing area...

Pinks take the inside corner (Surrey side) so very few will be on the north side.

I've always wondered if they have a preference as they migrate up the river. It wouldnt surprise me if they did, though it's not unreasonable that some will stray to the Coquitlam side. It's at least worth a try IMHO.

I have seen springs, coho and tons of pinks taken in New West. Never heard of the surrey side theory before.
