Hey everyone I'm 17 and been salmon fishing for a while here in bc and love it !! I borrowed a friends pin a while back and got hooked, but I haven't been able to do any thing about it, till 3 days ago. I resenlty sold a bunch of old stuff and finally had funds to buy my self a centerpin rig. I purchased a miller kingfisher size 4 3/8th it's beautiful and a fenwick HMX salmon/stealhead.

So basically I need all the help and wisdom I can get from all you wizards out there.

What bait do you guys float for coho and chum ? Artificial or roe ?
What pound leader. Mono or polycarbon
Do any of you guys float jigs for salmon ?
Do you guys have any help full tips for casting ?

Any help you guys offer is amazing

I run 15 pound mainline and 10 pound leader. I've landed chums and springs on 10pound leader.
I fish roe because bait is the best har har.
Purple jigs work great for chum.
If you're just starting out using more lead will make casting easier. Once you get the hang of it you can use less lead

Congrats on the pin fishallday! Milners are top-notch! As far as the questions: I usually run 12lb mono mainline and a 10lb fluorocarbon leader for all the river fishing I do. Cured roe is my "bait of choice" for coho and springs and it will also work for chum. Other baits/lures that can be effective for coho include a cured prawn with white wool combo, colorado blades (especially silver) and small wool ties the size of a single egg (colours I use include pink, red, orange, white, peach and sometimes chartreuse). A purple/pink jig suspended under a float is deadly if you're specifically targetting chum. Size 4 or 2 red gammys or Owner octopus hooks are what I use when fishing the roe. Good luck!

The best piece of advice is use the search function on this forum and you will find dozens of threads with many replies to your questions.

But if that is too much work for you, here's the short of it:

Bait: Roe
Artificial: wool and hammered colorados
Leaders: 8-10# leader for coho; 12# for chum. Maxima Ultragreen, of course.
Jigs: Yes, we do float jigs for chum. They are deadly.
Tip for casting: Practice, practice, practice.

You can find water at almost every stop along the way. Hike to get away from crowds. Fish are everywhere during salmon season.

as far as catching coho is upper river better now ? or will you still find freshies lower down ?

They will be throughout the system.

You probably won't get an answer to your question on a public forum. Best bet is to just go out and find out for yourself. Expect a lot of fishless days considering it's not a great run this year.

I like to use 15 lb Maxima as my main line and 8lbs as my leader. Roe works well...I don't like the mess all that much.. but I don't think anything works better..I love using Colorado's with it as well..as for casting, I like to use a swing cast. I pull back, and as soon as I reach my peak, I let my reel run, then I throw it out there..works for me. Glad you are enjoying the Centerpin!

 I put a 25g DNE float on, with the corresponding amount of lead, went down to the beach, did a few casts and was good to go. Super easy. I use 17 lb Sten mono and 15 fluoro leader.

thanks every one for tips, great video.
been out 4 times so far, zip the first time but the last two times I've caught some beauty coho and a chum.
so far I've brought home 2 hatchery coho and released 3 wild, all just sort floating roe couldn't be more stoked.
