Planned soil dump near Chehalis
« on: January 02, 2016, 08:19:51 AM »

This has got to be the dumbest act I've seen next to the hazardous waste proposal near the Fraser.

Looks like we're having to stand up for the environment again, let your voices be heard.

Let's dump garbage 300 metres from a major spawning stream and pretend there is no chance of contamination.Ridiculous.thanks for posting.

I just read that article...makes me angry. To be within 100m of Boulder creek is ridiculous. A torrent of rain could wash the soil right into Boulder creek and then chehalis.

"We have a high social conscious." Yeahh... I guess it's fine dumping contaminated soil near fish spawning and living areas... if it's not so bad why not just dump about 1000 pounds of that crap in your back yard less than 10 feet from your door and see what you say then.

I can't believe that the Sto:lo band is fine with this. In the ariticle the bands spokesperson comes across like its no big deal.... Guess it all comes down to $$$ and who is getting paid.

No surprise really. They are stewards of the land until they can make money...

Exactly and when the river becomes contaminated they blame the white man.

"Wilder said information sessions held at both Lake Errock and the Sts’ailes First Nation did not go well, although the band has not yet formally rendered its opinion on the project".

So glad this is dead.  I can't ever understand why these proposed 'soil dumps' are not chosen at sites that are many miles away from any rivers / lakes / streams.  Seems so common sense....

It's all about money. The owner is legally stealing the gravel from the area already so coming in with trucks full of toxic waste saves him fuel and labour cost.

Care to elaborate on how the owner is "stealing" gravel?

If that's even possible in BC there would no doubt be other issues in the way such as agricultural land, aquifers or nimbys.
