I got this from a fellow that is in on the conference calls re openings. I would think the notice should be issued tomorrow.

I thought they were meeting on Friday to make a determination whether to open. This was from the last DFO notice.

The sockeye updates they post are seperate from opening and closing notices. I believe the fraser river sockeye panel passess on there statistics and recommendations to fisheries who decide to open it or not based on their findings.

Was this e-mail from DFO? They announced tuesday that they are going to review the sockeye run timing on friday and announce then any sportfishing opening for sockeye. Just wondering why DFO never sent out any notices that it will open yet.

If you are a sockeye person, make plans for Friday.

We on this board try to be ahead of everyone else. This is one on the reasons why FWR is the top fishing site in the world. ;D ;D

Why would they announce the opening on Friday when it opens at 0.01 hours on Friday. :D

I have a meeting with Bill Otway in 15 minutes re a major protest against FOC that may be happening in the near future so will get his time table on the lenght of the sockeye season as well for you.

Hey Chris,
I noted some interesting year-on-year DFO estimated sockeye migration past Mission stats:  as at 20/7/04                                 as at 22/7/03

Early Stuart:   186,000                        25,900
Early Summer:205,000                        13,200
Summer run:   24,000                          2,300
Does this mean that the anticipated runs are almost 10 times the 2003 size or are the runs early this year.
Thanks for your insights and for all your work on our behalf.

Interesting statistics. Just when DFO thought they had it figured, nature throws a curve !
