I had one of the most, if not the most, satisfying and rewarding day of my 40 plus years of fishing on Saturday. I‘ve had days with more fish and/or bigger fish, but that’s not what this was about.
There’s a body of water that I have fished for cutthroat periodically over the past 10 years but I have always wanted to explore it by watercraft and fish water that I couldn’t readily access during the freshet. On Saturday we made that happen.
So, to explore a waterway that I have always wanted to push deeper into, to have it not come easily and with some sweat and effort to launch our pontoons, to fish and explore where few anglers go this time of year-if at all, to catch the cutthroat that I knew were there, and to catch them in the first couple of casts into pieces of water that I suspected would hold them.
It was a long awaited exploration, a hunt, and an adventure all rolled into one day, and capped off with some great friendship, and my biggest cutthroat from freshwater: a magnificently coloured and spotted 17”+ beauty.
Very cool.
