ABU Reel expert
« on: July 04, 2016, 02:30:42 PM »

Any idea who is the ABU reel expert on this forum? I seem to remember someone called Dan? Dan Grills? Or similar?
Thanks in anticipation.
Colin

What is the problem?
Did you take it apart, the springs sprung, and everything went everywhere else?
You got extra parts after putting it back together?

We all kinda wanta know.

Wouldn't deal with Mikes, veryyyyyyyy slow. Have reels sitting there since early March and get the excuse they are waiting for parts. Also they don't answer the phones just leave a voicemail and they don't call back.

Have been dealing with Kevin at Express Reel for a few years now and completely satisfied. Does an excellent job, fast and a real nice guy to deal with. Highly recommended.

Stryker Rod & Reel in Surrey, or Express Reel in Abbotsford is where I go.

Highly recommend Kevin at Express Reel.
He Just re felted my my G3's, and repaired an old Abu round reel for me. Took only 1 week, and he did a great job.
Do not want to put any unrealistic expectations on him, but i do not see a reason to go anywhere else.

Hi all, sorry for the delay in getting back, been away on holiday.

I was asking for a friend as he had picked up a couple of reels at a boot sale. 1 had no markings apart from thr foot number. He has since found the ABU site with the info on it to identify it. I'm waiting to see or hear what it is.

Thanks for all the replies and tell Mike to get his finger out! Ha ha ha.

Post pictures of the reel and the foot number and i will certainly be able to identify it. I am a collector of vintage ABUs, but not a tech expert. In fact, I often rely on my buddy Tadpole when my repairs go south. ::)

As for Ken D, he is still alive and kicking. Sadly, he suffered a severe stroke a couple of years ago and unfortunately is not yet able to repair reels and build rods as he hasn't regain enough mobility to do so.  :(

But he truly is the Master of all things Ambassadeur!
