Cultus Lake 101, please
« on: August 13, 2016, 11:00:53 AM »

Heading with some friends and our kids to Cultus Lake tomorrow and might fish from shore there for the first time.

Trying to find out the quotas, I went to the BC synopsis page but got utterly confused. What are the daily limits for Cultus? I can't wait until someone puts out an app that checks your GPS and instantly tells you your quotas.

Also, are the pikeminow to be disposed of if caught. Are they bad table fare, even if I make them swim in garlic butter?

Finally, any suggestions for lures this time of year?

Thanks in advance

Better to swim in garlic butter than in Cultus Lake itself. The amount of people getting cedar itch this year is unreal.

http://www.env.gov.bc.ca/fw/fish/regulations/docs/1517/fishing_synopsis_2015-17_region2.pdf

No wild trout/char over 50cm.
It's pretty simple. If a lake doesn't state any quotas or retention bans, the regions general quotas apply.

To avoid cedar itch - which is caused by snail larva burrowing into the skin - either wash with soap and water after leaving the water or briskly towel off. If anyone gets cedar itch treat with an antihistamine such as gravol. Once the rash clears up there are no after effects.

Just go to provincial regs. If it doesn't have quotas for cultus lake.

I believe you mean Benadryl? Gravol is for motion sickness/vomiting.

Gravol is marketed as an anti-nausea drug although the drug itself dimenhydrinate is an antihistamine.

they are both antihistamines. Antihistimines help suppress immune reaction swelling. Gravol is usually used to treat nausea but I've used it for immune reactions to bites as that was what I had in the medicine cabinet. They can both be used as sleep aids as 1st generation antihistamines like gravol and benadryl will also make a person drowsy. Avoid them if you are older and have a swollen prostate as it makes that condition worse.
