Anybody had any luck with bass in the winter months? Caught lots at Albert Dyck and Fishtrap over the last couple of summers. Tried once at Albert Dyck last winter and had no luck. The reading online says that they're dormant when it's cold but wondering if that's in places that get a real wintertime. If you can catch them, what do you need to do differently? Fish deeper? What about somewhere like Fishtrap that doesn't get very deep? Or should I just go catch some trout somewhere else?

Bass can be caught in the winter. They still have to eat, it is just a matter of energy spent vs received. They will not chase, they will not cruise around. They will stay put under cover. Larger presentations cast directly to them work best. On the lakes you mentioned it is not always practical but it can be done.

As Blood_Orange said, they're still around and still feeding (somewhat) but they're really lazy this time of year.  There are two problems you'll run into (neither of which are deal breakers):

1.  They're very lethargic and won't be chasing anything.  You've pretty much got to hit them in the face with your lure. 

2.  They're going to be holding on places that they can stay all winter so often times they're deep in the weeds where you may not want to throw your gear. 

With all that said, it's definitely possible.  If it were me I would wacky rig a rubber worm and be VERY thorough about covering the water in areas you suspect they might be holding.  Another option to consider is crossing the line to Whatcom Lake or somewhere like that where they are more abundant.
