apps used? What smartphone apps do you use to help fishing?
« on: December 05, 2016, 07:27:08 AM »

What apps. do you guys use and/or suggest?  For my Android, I like:

Angler's Atlas:  Great website and now an app.
Tides: Great for fishing tidal waters.  Also shows sunrise times.
Allstays Camp and RV however, I replaced it w/ RV Parks:  Shows where I can camp w/ my truck camper.
Hunting and Fishing Solunar Time PRO: I paid a few dollars for this.  Supposedly shows best dates and times to fish based on moon phases and other stuff.  Also shows sunrise times.  I'm not sure this stuff works, it only costs a few dollars.
Canada Topo: I check it out when looking at some new shore fishing spots

I forgot to add "BC Highways" app.  It actually pretty good at showing road conditions.  Great for heading out on those ice fishing trips.

What do you guys use?

The app is pay-to-play, so I use the website, but Animated Knots is fantastic...

RiverApp for river levels - you can set alarms for rising or falling levels, and it has all the station data from the Canada Water Office website.
Weather Network - has the best radar images on the Cedder so you can track storms as they move upriver to see how much rain they are dumping along the way.
The FWR app - oh, wait, that was just a dream I had.

Wow, I didn't know RiverApp had Canadian rivers. It's great!  Thanks.

Activate airplane mode on your phone! The camera still works!

The only one I ever use, and only very occasionally, is "MyTrails".

It's saved me arse a couple times now from getting lost in endless bush for hours. You can set it to use google earth as the map backdrop (make sure you load it while in service - once out of service, you can't display new areas unless previously loaded).

I typically use it on new rivers on the island while exploring. It will track your movements (the gps locator is phenomenal, even when out of service and in canyons or thick bush). It gives you a red dot for where you are. This is especially useful when we are contemplating punching out from the river to the road.

The cool thing is that you can also save your trails, or make/save a way point. You can name the trails or way points (as many points as you want), and you can load data for each trail or way point such as elevation, distance covered, time (start time and total time), etc. Could be useful for when you catch a fish - just throw a pin down and it'll give you the time you hit it at and location.
