Preserving shrimp in salt water
« on: June 01, 2017, 08:29:20 PM »

In previous threads about preserving bait such as shrimp, people always either dry-salted the bait or towel-dried it after wet brining, prior to putting it in the freezer.  Has anyone tried just leaving the bait in saturated salt water in the fridge instead of freezing it?

On a different note, has anyone tried using garlic salt?  (I know it's probably iodized but some people say that makes no difference.)

I'm thinking it'll go bad faster in a wet environment...   That said my dog certainly dosent mind old rotten food so who know,  the fish may key into the aged shrimp?

Never heard of garlic salt being used but mybe some of that fancy pink Himalayan salt?

You're dissipating the scent by leaving it in liquid

Cannot think of any reason to leaving the shrimp in the water. The salted water will help toughen the shrimp but will obviously not dry them which is one of the key benefits of using the dry salt method.
