The taps are most likely from bullheads or other coarse fish pecking at your bait  :P

Fished Langley area Saturday..got skunked..had some decent bites but no hookups. Saw some nice cohos caught, but overall it was slow. Water vis around 2-3 feet in the area I was fishing at.

Fished Richmond Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday north arm  - despite landing three on Tuesday, only One wild jack for me. In total there was about eight fisherman when I was there and only saw one other fish landed though I was only there for about 4 hours.

Sunday north and south arm - not even a bite for me despite two different spots and about 8 hours fishing :( Five hours in south arm with about eight rods in the water and no bites while I was there, only lost gear. North arm about twelve rods and saw 3 small coho landed.

Strangely quiet for mid October - very few fish showing at the moment.

I think the coho are a week behind. I keep a detailed record of my catches over the years. I take this week off every year for coho. Fished hard the last two days on northern tributaries and only one adult coho to show for it. Last year I had multi fish days every day this week.

was talking to the gentleman that collects the Coho heads for DFO in Glen Valley today and he was saying he thinks that the Coho are still staging at mouth of the Fraser since the temperature of the water is 4*C warmer than normal, The last few days I haven't seen much if any fish rolling or jumping in Langley area of Fraser River

Keep in mind that there have been communal nettings going on all weekends throughout the entire lower river so you're not going to find an high abundance of fish showing themselves except maybe mid week.

I spent a short time on the North Arm in Burnaby yesterday afternoon. While I saw no fish, water visibility was pretty good. If it hasn't colored up from yesterday's deluge it may be ok today.

I was out again today on a Tidal tributary and no coho around at all. Lots of old chum ( none fresh from what I saw in 5 hours of fishing )

Looks like it's time to whack the steel head. Hard to release a dead one that's been gilled

Fishery Notice
Category(s): ABORIGINAL - Salmon: Economic Opportunities
COMMERCIAL - Salmon: Gill Net
COMMERCIAL - Salmon: Seine
COMMERCIAL - Salmon: Troll
Subject: FN1079-Fraser River Chum Update - October 16, 2017

In-season estimates of abundance for Fraser River chum are based on catch
information provided by the Albion test fishery.  Using Albion test fishery
data through October 15, 2017 the current median estimate for the terminal
Fraser River chum return is 1.29 million chum, with a 50% migration date of
October 15, 2017.  There is an 80% probability that the run is between 604,000
and 2.733 million, and a 79% probability that the run will exceed the
escapement goal of 800,000.

The current run size is sufficient to allow for commercial opportunities in the
Fraser River.  Additional information on available Commercial TAC and
commercial fisheries planning details will be provided via separate fishery
notices.

Opportunities to harvest chum salmon will be constrained by management
objectives for Interior Fraser steelhead which is a stock of concern presently
co-migrating in the Fraser River.  Harvest opportunities in commercial
fisheries, including First Nation economic opportunity fisheries, will be
planned to minimize impacts on these stocks, as outlined in the 2017 South
Coast Salmon Integrated Fisheries Management Plan (IFMP). Fishers are required
to take every measure possible to ensure that their fishing activities avoid
impacts on steelhead.  Any steelhead encountered must be released with the
least possible harm.

While no additional in-season updates are planned at this time, we will
continue to closely monitor chum catch at the Albion test fishery over the
coming days. Should new data indicate the need to update the current run size
and timing estimate, additional updates will be provided.

A bunch of net openings happening that may affect your fishing in the Lower Fraser.

Richmond south arm fishing today on the outgoing tide. I was skunked but most people around me caught a couple. Been hearing fairly consistently that things picked up over the last three or four days but predominantly jacks. By my notes the jacks show up in larger numbers at the start of the run, hopefully things pick up this next week or so :)

1 to 3 days depending on the extent of the netting. Expect a shorter recovery for a FN opening and for a shorter & less intense commercial opening. If a commercial opening extends from the mouth to Mission & a large number of boats participate expect longer.

Fished New West/Delta area from 4:30-6:30. Skunked, had mostly bullhead bites; saw only 1 hatch coho (~4-5 lbs) landed.
