I have lost my  enthusiasm /  desire to  bring home any Steelheads this year.

Reading about the low numbers and just kinda changed the way i feel about it.

Anyone else feel the same way.....

It’s not really ideal to let the hatchery fish spawn with the wilds especially on a larger scale. Retaining them is what their put their for. No need to feel bad about keeping one

Is catch and release not enough? Do we really need to retain steelhead?

So, what if....the hatchery temporarily ceased production of hy steelhead for period of time, say 5 years.

For that period of time, no wild fish would be captured as brood for hy fish, however the river would still be open to C&R fishing of wild fish.

Over time, you would see an inverse bell curve in the abundance of hy fish (I'm guessing with t=~10 years).

Would it make a difference? Would the rec fishers go for it?

So you killed a fish this morning and went home and after dressing it out, you  get on the ol’ Updates thread and instead of sharing the conditions with the rest of us, start ‘inferring’ and then demand someone else report the conditions? Well you were there, tell the weekend guys how the water is. - And how big was the fish?

Your worried about losing wild stock to be used for brood! Correct? So why not just shut it down completely to avoid losing wild fish that get beat on daily by the c/r. Let’s face it, steelhead are not the smartest fish in the world! If you have never caught the same fish within a very short time period during the same day, well I don’t know what to say!

Well I have read alot of posts about people complaining about the lack of fish this year and the dismal brood capture so far. I and some others have been just shaking their head!

Wild fish landed, check
Hatch fish killed, check
Numbers landed compared to previous years, pretty consistent, check
Number of river mechanics out, low, happy
Overall hooked and landed steelhead this winter, happy 😃
Is it really as bad as people say it is, No!

There is my conditions report for the year! Hope to see you on the flow but chances are I will say
It sucks and move on! After all I’m a Steelheader!

the ego's in this thread are off the charts. i catch more, no i catch more lol. old guys cant catch fish. young kids on ei and what not. enough of the bs.

some people have a hard time understanding that people enjoy to go out and fish whether they catch 1 or 20 steelhead in a season.   

no one asked about your un scientific brood stock evaluation, and no one cares about your condition for the year. they asked for a simple update in water conditions and instead your ego got in the way.

River was in decent shape today, about 2 feet of vis in the mid and upper river.
