Lodges - north vancouver island or rivers inlet
« on: February 18, 2018, 06:38:00 AM »

Hey folks.  My Dad brother and I are looking at getting to a lodge this summer. Looking at rivers inlet or Vancouver island

Has anyone had any experience with any of the lodges? Looking for something a bit more economical than the $4000+ per person range.

Thoughts? Thx in advance!

Guided? Not guided?  Bringing your own boat? Not bringing your own boat?

Nothing is free.

Murphy's Kyuquot lodge package is IMO very reasonably priced. What you're bringing back home at the end of the trip is worth about how much you're paying for it already.

Anyway, last I checked they are about 90% booked up for the season already so there are only a few spots left.

Shearwater Resort a good one .You can book a trip with BC Ferries if you don't mind the drive to Port Hardy . I think it's under $2000 per.per.
Your not stuck on a float their either .
Just an idea  8)

Not North Van Isle, but G&S Fishing lodge - http://gandsfishinglodge.com/ in Bamfield. Super reasonable and awesome accomodation.
I've been going here for over 10 years. Small family run business, they run 2 24' Whaler outrage's.
Gudies are very experienced (one is the owner, Gil).
Cost is approx $1500pp, that will get you 4 nights, 3 full days of fishing, all meals and drinks included (the answer is yes, not top shelf stuff but it's there).
I usually have to book around November the year before, but sometimes you get lucky and a spot opens up.

Honestly I wouldn't bother with Rivers Inlet there are a few large fish True but other than that there's little variety to be had unless you're willing to do some seriously long runs to the Outside.

WCVI is your best bet.

The suggestion of Hakai is a good one too.

I fished rivers inlet for a while with my work group for years, we stopped going there and switched to kyuquot sound , murphies lodge, for the last few years.
Rivers is beautiful , fishing inside , close to shore , calm waters to most part , tons of wild life, big fish, but not many and not in varaity ,  not easy to get your limit , well I never fished guided there actually always did my own thing , guided maybe you do better, can’t say .
Offshore van island , you are almost guaranteed your limit on all species , except maybe not coho , unless it’s a good year .

So depends what you like , I like both , and still prefer to fish rivers even if I only get a few fish ...
