Homeless camp
« on: March 23, 2018, 10:49:11 PM »

Noticed today that two motor homes have set up shop at Borden creek pullout. Two big piles of junk and crap spread around these motor homes making for a unsightly mess. Looks like they been there for awhile. Hoping the city steps in and kicks then outta there.

LOL!  The city or any other government agency won't touch this as it out of their jurisdictional area.  If the garbage is still there on April 21 the Chilliwack Vedder River Cleanup Society will clean it up.

The city kicked out the guy in the trailer and the woman in the camper that was camped out for months in the pull out below the slab. At least they kept the area clean. The Borden creek pullout looks likes a dump.

If the city evicted them they had no legal authority to do so.

The area in question is under the direction of the Fraser Valley Regional District, Electoral area E.
As far as I know, these people are doing nothing illegal ... camping is allowed but obviously dumping garbage is not.  Orion Engar is the elected representative and is very aware of what's happening; this will be addressed soon, probably through the April cleanup.

I wish there was an answer to this problem. Obviously this issue is pretty complex because no place in history has ever been able to solve it. The easy answer is to chase them away but what if they move beside your house? When we chase them from one spot they have to go somewhere and that is the problem, where? I am not aware of any society in history, either left wing liberals or right wing conservatives, that have had a solution. We can say it is a mental health issue and lock them up like criminals but that isn't a solution, just a bandaid. We can say it is a drug issue and lock them up, but again, just a bandaid because they can't be locked up forever. We can give them a place to call their own, like the tent city in M.R, but it becomes apparent that they are unable to live in a safe, healthy or acceptable community, drugs, theft and hygiene among other things become issues quickly. And it is hard to remember that they are people too, not just some offshoot of society that we ignore until we find our window glass on the road.

Squatting on public land in B.C., you have no rights.  The structure can be taken down and the violators can be charged for the clean up too. At this point individuals who are guilty of this have gotten off pretty easy. Not to be mean spirited about it, but laws and regulations have to be followed by everyone.

--don't know this area but this is typical...authorities seem to have no problem kicking out unfortunate people. that is those who keep the area clean, keep an eye out for others that make a mess or are not there to vandalize vehicles or take stuff. they are most likely to leave when asked, because they are honest people down on their luck and trying to get by.
--it seems if you have a bunch of criminal types, making a mess and terrorizing the neighborhood there is no way to remove them because they know they don't have to comply.

I was under the impression those people left on their own after the last time someone took some more shots at the RV's up there.
