Shaping Up to be Another Grim Fire Season...
« on: April 06, 2018, 11:08:52 AM »

It's still early in the year, but preliminary forecasts from federal government scientists suggest B.C. may be in for another active wildfire season.

The Canadian Wildland Fire Information System released its latest seasonal forecasts this week, predicting that most of the southern half of B.C. will be more vulnerable than normal to wildfire throughout June, July and August.

Most parts of Southern BC have a good snow pack though over average and even well over average in some cases. This includes the Island

Grass / bush fire the other day just east of Kamloops!!! So surprised that would happen this time of year.
Everything should be quite wet one would assume. Hasn't be hot & sunny yet.

While that is true, the problem isn't the size of the snow pack anymore, it's how fast it's melting. Last winters snow pack was sizable, but the problem was that it all melted too quickly because of the fast onset of summer. Scientists are saying its the same problem this year
